Here is the Riley Whiting 30 Hr Wooden Works clock as received. Actually I perchased the movement for this clock back in the early 1990’s. I found this case and dial in 2005. Some things just take a little longer to find. The movement is a perfect fit into the case. However as received, the case is missing one column, the door is missing a lot of veneer and the cross piece, and the top board on the case is split.
This view shows the split top board
For the carving I copied a high resolution photo from another Riley Whiting clock. The splat was done free hand with a dremel tool. The columns were first turned on a lathe, then split in two, then carved with a dremel.
I decided that I wanted to turn this clock into a carved column + splat clock. This view shows the carving work in progress. This clock was entered into the 2009 NAWCC National Crafts Competition where it received a First Place Ribbon in the carving category.
Here is the completed Riley Whiting wooden works clock. For the tablet I chose to replicate a lithograph titled “The Playmates” done by D.W. Kellogg + Co. This exact image was taken from another Riley Whiting clock, so I thought it would be very appropriate here. The stenciling on the bottom of the tablet was done by me.
