Seth Thomas, Plymouth, Conn. 30 Hr Wooden Works, Pillar and Scroll Clock circa 1822-1826
Here is the Seth Thomas Pillar and Scroll Clock as puchased off ebay. The case was extremely dirty, missing the scroll top and feet. Original to the clock are the case, movement, dial, label, tablet and hands.
This shows the dial with one half cleaned and the other half as found. Just a slight improvement, I’d say. Note the flaked areas around the winding holes. These were touched up to be fairly imperceptible on the completed clock.
Original Tablet as recieved. Normally I make all my own tablets. However, I am color blind and matching old colors is not an easy thing to do. I had Lee Davis restore this tablet. He did great as you can see from the final product
Veneer pieces were applied to a base piece of pine with the same pattern as an original
Pre-assembly checked for proper fit.
Here shows the restoration complete
Here we see two pillar and scroll clocks side by side. Seth Thomas on the right and Eli & Samuel Terry on the left. This shows just how dirty these clocks were. All I used to clean them up was gojo with 0000 steel wool. Then I applied a coat of wax. Replacement parts were shellacked to match the old finish.

Pieces now cut out ready for assembly
